Real Valladolid sporting director Miguel Ángel Gómez has addressed transfer speculation linking centre-back Mohammed Salisu to a move away from the club, amid links to Manchester United.
Salisu has been linked with a move to United in recent months, with Everton also named as an interested party in transfer reports, though Gomez insists the player knows his current club “loves” him.
Salisu, 20, reportedly has a €12million release clause. But Gomez says Valladolid have handed him three contract extensions in the past year or so in an attempt to keep him at the club.
The sporting director spoke openly about Salisu’s future and how he wants to keep him at the La Liga club. The Ghanaian defender has made 14 appearances this season, scoring one goal.
“Salisu perceives the love of the club because we have made three contracts in thirteen months,” Gomez told Pucela Fichajes .
“He knows that he is an important player and that we would like to proceed with that renewal, but today there is a standstill.”
MEN Sport understands that centre-back is not a priority position for United in the current transfer market. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side splashed out £80million to secure Harry Maguire from Leicester in the summer.
They are instead looking at central midfield, right-wing and centre forward as positions to bolster, either in the upcoming January transfer window, or in the summer.
